Afyon Kocatepe University (AKU) has published its 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, which sets the roadmap for the university for the next 5 years. AKU Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakaş, who made a statement about the plan, stated that the plan includes AKU's medium and long-term goals, basic principles and policies, targets and priorities, performance metrics, as well as the methods and resource allocation to achieve them. According to Karakaş, strategic plans contribute to the stability and success of government institutions. He said, "Strategic plans are guiding documents that show the direction of institutions in their daily work. They explain what the management commits to doing in the future and also how to achieve this success. AKU continues its work with the aim of creating the "university of the future". The 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, which determines the direction and content of our work, is a roadmap created through consensus to reach our future goals." AKU sets new goals in the strategic plan. Karakaş announced that they have determined new goals for AKU in the new strategic plan. He said, "We have also updated our mission and vision to achieve these goals. Our newly updated mission, which we have revised with our stakeholders in the University Advisory Board, is to generate scientific knowledge at a universal level, train qualified individuals who can lead in their professional fields, and contribute to regional and national development. Our newly updated vision, again revised with our stakeholders, is to become an international university that contributes to regional development by constantly improving quality in scientific research and educational activities and is among the innovative and entrepreneurial universities at national level." Karakaş emphasized that AKU's 2024-2028 Strategic Plan was created with a participatory approach and collective wisdom, taking into account the evaluations of external stakeholders, personnel and students within the framework of the university's mission and vision. Karakaş said, "Prepared with openness to change and innovation, the 2024-2028 Strategic Plan will serve as a guide to our university in achieving our goals by using public resources effectively, economically and efficiently." Karakaş also added that AKU continues to prioritize the fields of "Engineering and Technology, Gastronomy and Thermal Tourism, Food, Animal Health and Livestock" in order to differentiate AKU from other universities.
